Today we're reviewing the latest UCS Star Wars set - the A-wing starfighter. My favourite starfighter from the franchise in fact, so I was very grateful when LEGO sent us the set to review - however you can be assured our review will be as unbiased as possible.
We aim to provide unique reviews from the perspective of a MOC builder and fan of building techniques. We score sets we review out of 100, giving 20 points each for building techniques, part selection, creativity, value for money and display value.
Overall, this set definitely feels like a worthy recreation of a classic starfighter - the shapes, proportions and colours are captured perfectly in an impressive and larger than expected model. The techniques especially are real highlights of the set, with almost all the sections being attached to a technic frame making for a very solid build. Unfortunately, the engines are the exceptional to this trend with them being quite fragile, due to only being attached by one technic connection. However, this small negative and the slightly steep price don't tarnish are view of the set, and we feel collectors and MOC builder's alike will find much to love in this beautiful starfighter from a galaxy far, far away.
Our scoring was as follows:
Building techniques – 19/20
Part selection – 17/20
Creativity – 18/20
Value for money – 15/20
Display value – 19/20
