This technique by brickbard places tiles against angled 1x1 plates, to create a cross-stitch pattern that can be used for walls or floors.
The 1x1 plates are built up in 2 layers on a base plate, then angled at 45 degrees. Next, 1x1 tiles of you chosen colour can be placed on the plates. This will create a gap between the 1x1 plates, where tiles can be placed in one direction, usually 1x4 or 1x6 tiles as seen in the picture. 1x1 tiles can then be used to fill in the gaps in the other direction, and you are left with a fully customizable design, as tiles come in a huge range of colours.
