An Unlikely Choice Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance is the flagship attraction in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge found at the Disneyland Resort and Walt Disney World in the United States. An image of the attraction poster of Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance with Kylo Ren featured prominently, two AT-ATs, stormtroopers, X-Wings and the I-TS Transport fleeing a Star Destroyer. This immersive attraction puts guests into an active conflict between the Resistance and the First Order that canonically takes place between The Last Jedi and Rise of Skywalker. Guests board the I-TS Transport from the Resistance base on the planet of Batuu to escape the incoming First Order. Things do not go as planned and they are captured and brought aboard a Star Destroyer and it is a thrilling race to escape. An image of the Resistance I-TS Transport.

Inspiration: In designing the transport, Doug Chiang, Vice President and Executive Director Lucasfilm says, “We wanted to make it so that non-Star Wars fans coming in here would automatically understand…you’ll see the nose is distinctly inspired by blockade runners. The engines are oversized X-wing engines. The color schemes are very much in line with the Rebel colors.” [1.] The Art of Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge They were successful in their design as Star Wars fans not familiar with the ship picked up on the motifs of previous ships when the set was announced in 2020! LET’S TAKE A LOOK FURTHER! Image of the Lego Resistance I-TS Transport with minifigs, Vi Moradi, GNK Droid, Lieutenant Bek, and R-5.

Minifigures: Minifigures Score: 3 out of 5. Featuring original characters created for Galaxy’s Edge, all of the minifigs and droids are exclusive, but for $99.99, could have benefited from a few more minifigs (Nien Nunb, who pilots, for example). Techniques: Techniques Score: 4 out of 5. A variety of interesting techniques are used in this 9+ set. The Technic structure especially allows for unique angles and a surprisingly sturdy build once finished. A number of Technic and angled pieces create the hull of the ship… Image of the techniques used to create the hull is shown using the following pieces: Part 64179 Technic, Liftarm, Modified Frame Thick 5 by 7 Open Center, Light Bluish Gray 15706 Wedge, Plate A-Shape with 2 Rows of 4 Studs, Black 3701, Technic, Brick 1 x 4 with Holes, Dark Bluish Gray …and these 3 sections come together to create a satisfying angle. Image of the techniques used to create the hull is shown using the following pieces: 10247 Plate, Modified 2 by 2 with Pin Hole - Full Cross Support Underneath, Black 34816 Brick, Modified 1 x 2 with Bar Handle on End - Bar Flush with Edge, Dark Tan 6134 Hinge Brick 2 x 2 Top Plate, Black 3937 Hinge Brick 1 x 2 Base, Light Bluish Gray

Accuracy: Accuracy Score: 5 out of 5. Instantly recognizable from the exterior to those familiar, the set is captured at play-scale perfectly. Images of the sticker details of the Lego set matching up with the in world version. Image of the in world transport and the Lego transport. These blue structures are handles for passengers to hold onto while the ship is in flight - they are not exactly minifig scale. Lines are drawn from the Lego 2 by 2 tiles to the interior of the transport.

Suggested MODs: Modding Star Wars sets is common practice and here are some for inspiration. Tiling off the exterior and replacing the white pieces gives the ship a more polished look. Images of a modded transport that is a bit smoother and has more light bluish gray pieces than white. The overall ship can be extended to allow for a proper spot for Bek to command. Final Thoughts: Value for Money Score: 3 out of 5. At $0.10 per part, it is not bad, but 1-2 additional minifigures would help the overall cost. Additionally, the Technic structure makes the back of the ship inaccessible making it barely live up to its “transport” title. The I-TS Transport does not bring anything extraordinary to the table, but ultimately for anyone that has experienced Galaxy’s Edge, they will enjoying looking at and playing with this set to remind them of their Disney vacation.
