#2467 MOC OF THE WEEK: Year of the dragon by @jayfa_mocs Jayfa has been building a unique dragon every month of 2024! We’ve reached the halfway point so let’s breakdown what’s been built so far! Images show 4 LEGO dragons. The next slides will go deeper into their aesthetics and designs.

January: Draconis Pitaya Based off a pitaya (also known as a dragon fruit), this wingless dragon has a lot of personality! The image shows a magenta and white dragon, with lime green spikes running down its back and tail. The underside of the dragon is white with black spots to replicate the seeds of a dragon fruit. The seeds on the dragon’s underside are created with black bars (48729) inserted into the hollow studs of 1x2 round plates (35480) in white. 2x2 magenta flower pieces (15469) make up the tail. The lower jaw of the dragon uses 2169 dragon jaw from Ninjago in white. The eyes uses 2x2 inverted bumper tiles in spring green with a hidden side print (2654pb011)

February: Draconis Lepidoptera This dragon is inspired by a Luna Moth and captures the beautiful green wings and fuzzy body perfectly! The image shows a small white dragon with large spring green wings with marbled trans bright green. The wings are made from the dragon wing piece 51342pb10 overlapping each other. Stacked white crown pieces (39262) around a flex-tube create a bendable tail. The proboscis tongue of the dragon is made with a medium lavender whip piece (2488)

March: Draconis Nudibranchia This striking water dragon is based on various nudibranchs, vibrant tropical sea slugs! Jayfa uses his signature cloth technique for the skin on this build. The image shows a dark azure and dark blue dragon, with a white underbelly and orange details on its back. It is posed as if it’s swimming in the water. Brick separators in orange are used for the plume on the dragon’s back. Check out post #2408 for more ways to use brick separators! Dragon jaw 72362pb02 in dark azure with printed details is used for the lower jaw. The skin is made of flooded blue cloth dragon wings 78229, from the Ninjago water dragon.

April: Draconis Gypaetus This month's dragon is inspired by a Bearded Vulture, which already looks like a real-life dragon! The image shows a bird-like dragon, perched on a branch. The dragon is mostly black and dark red, with tufts of white around the neck and belly. It has dark grey scaly legs and red eyes. “Parts Spamming” is a technique where the same part is used in high quantities to create a unique texture, such as the black feather parts (11091) on the wings. The dark red fur armour attachment (11334) from Chima ultrabuild figures is used as feather detailing. The lower jaw is made with a Ninjago dragon jaw in dark tan (72224pb03)

May: Draconis Anura This chunky little dragon is based on a toad! Overlaying an olive-green tail piece (40379) and purple bat wings (15082) create adorable tiny wings! The image shows the toad inspired dragon, with a tan underbelly and olive green topside. The nose is dark tan and there is a golden crest on its head. A teal tongue hangs out of its mouth. The tail piece (40379) is used again for the tongue and lips of the dragon! A small dragonfly flies in front of the dragon, it uses a medium azure katana piece for its body (21459)

June: Draconis Wisteria Inspired by the hanging flowers of a Wisteria plant, This dragon makes use of lots of brown tails and tendrils to replicate the wood texture. The image shows a reddish-brown dragon seemingly made of wood, with lavender and lime green flowers hanging off of the wings, head, body and tail. The LOTR ring piece (11010) is used as the dragon’s eye. The blade piece 59229 in reddish brown is used on the face to create the wood texture. The minifigure hair piece with a ponytail (87990) in reddish brown is used on the dragon’s snout. The flowers use the 1x1 leaf plate (32607) in lavender. A zipline (27965) in reddish brown is wrapped around the wing to create a twisting vine.
