It’s time to explore a theme from the past! Today we’re paying tribute to the Indiana Jones theme, looking at the sets released in 2008 to 2009, its return in 2023 and the MOCs the theme has inspired! Grab your fedora and whip and let’s dive into this adventure!

Tips and Bricks logo. #2492 THEME TRIBUTE: Indiana Jones (2008-2009, 2023) Get ready for adventure – today we’re taking a deep dive into the Indiana Jones theme, and looking at the MOCs inspired by it! Speech bubble from Indiana Jones says “There better be no snakes in these MOCs…”

The Indiana Jones theme featured 21 sets across 2008-2023, with sets based on the first four films in 2008 and 2009! The theme later returned in 2023, releasing three additional sets remastering scenes from previous LEGO sets!

Minifigures: The 2023 wave of sets remastered some of the original minifigures, but also introduced some characters not featured in 2008-2009, like Sallah! Iconic parts: Parts introduced in this theme include Indiana Jones’ hat (61506), his whip (61975), the 2023 updated version of Indiana Jones’ hat (1849pb01), the golden idol (62713), the Crystal Skull (62709pb01), ant (62575pb01), Indiana Jones’ bag (61976) and Mola Ram’s headgear (85979pb01). The theme also included two video games, the first in 2008 and the sequel in 2009. It showed LEGO’s versions of characters and scenes not included in the sets.

The iconic boulder scene from ‘Raiders’ has inspired many fantastic MOCs! This MOC is by Zed on Flickr. This Aztec helmet is from CMF Series 7! This MOC is motorized so the boulder can roll across the broken floor towards Indy!

This MOC by Cube Brick on Flickr creates the Lost Ark’s tomb at a grander scale! The Anubis statues are built using tire parts for the arms and legs. The Ark of the Covenant has brilliant part usage and sits at the centre of the tomb.

The Temple of Doom received fewer official sets in 2008 and 2009, but MOC builders have filled in the gap! This MOC is by @W. Navarre on Flickr. The statue’s design has six arms, so it’s fitting that minifigure hands are key for capturing the shape and details! SNOT build with a 1x2 plate to create some grim detail.

John Klapheke on Flickr created a whole series of vignette builds for different scenes of the films - this style of build is a great way to show many different Indy moments in a LEGO build!

The Dial of Destiny released in 2023, being the only film without LEGO sets! Matt The Wookiee on YouTube has recreated multiple scenes as MOCs! This first MOC depicts the train scene at the start of the film. The Lance of Longinus is also included! This MOC recreates the parade chase, with Indy on horseback. 1x2 tiles and 1x1 slope pieces are scattered as confetti from the parade.

th_squirrel on Flickr created their own minifigures based on all five films, with new characters LEGO never created! Mola Ram’s headgear uses an Anacondrai skull (18962) connected to a hilt (92690) with horns. Voller uses the suit torso from the Muppets CMF.

Microscale builds have been another popular way to recreate a variety of Indiana Jones scenes. This build by MOMAtteo79 on Flickr represents key scenes from the first three films! The scenes in the film include the Peruvian Temple, Mount Humol, the Temple of Kali, Venice, the plane chase and the Grail Temple. Thanks for looking back at the Indiana Jones theme with us! What was your experience with the theme? Let us know in the comments!
