Our score: 4 out of 5 for parts selection Some unique recolours, however their potential usefulness in MOC building doesn’t seem high. Lots of rare parts, a new cauldron piece and a small number of stickers help this set achieve a high score.

Minifigures: Dizzy. Variant is in 2 other sets. New armour, prints, and hair recolour, Evil version of Izzie with dark, creepy, colour scheme, a dual moulded black and trans-pink slimy, spikey, armour piece, and a dark pink tattered waist cape, wielding a corrupted-looking sword. Variant is in 3 other sets. Boy with brown coiled hair, modern teen outfit with blue puffer jacket mould. Mateo has a slime-shooter back attachment, this build appears in another set of this wave. Z-Blob. Variant is in 4 other sets. Bar with light cover (Bulb)/ Bionicle Barraki eye piece in trans-bright green with 2 eyes print. Astrid. Exclusive to this set. A woman wearing a dark blue jacket sitting in a gold wheelchair. White jet boosters are attached to the handlebars of the wheelchair. Our score: 3 out of 5 for minifigures. All the figures are greatly detailed with new parts, but only 5 figures, with only one being exclusive, for a £90/$/€100 is a bit disappointing.

Techniques: The core of the raven’s body is 2 studs wide, whilst the head’s core is 1 stud wide. To bridge this gap, a pair of ratcheting hinges (44301b, and 60471) are used to create a sturdy connection. Black claw pieces (16770) are used as feathers throughout the build. This build is a SNOT masterclass! Many different SNOT bricks, such as the 1x1x2/3 D-snot brick and brackets come together to form the shape of the head. The lower beak is made from a Hero Factory blade in dark grey, 15362. It connects into a technic connector (24122), and then a clip (48729b).

Techniques: The wings of the raven attach with double ratcheting joints, allowing for flapping and rotational movement. Small feathers lining the edge of the wing connect via 1x1 round plates with bar (32828). The 3 large feathers are mounted on mini ball joints. The house perched on the raven’s back has a crooked chimney created with multiple hinge bricks angled in different directions. Some interesting LEGO geometry lines up to allow the purple 4x4 macaroni tile to attach to the side of the hut.

Techniques: The hut’s roof has LEGO Dots-esque tiling with bright colours such as magenta and coral to create some swirling shapes. The roof folds out with technic pins to reveal lots of ingredients for the Never Witch's cauldron. Inside on a pedestal there is a 1x1 crystal in opal trans-purple. The barred windows use 3l bars in pearl gold (87994) that slot into the underside of 1x6 arches in dark bluish grey (92950). Our score: 3 out of 5 for techniques. Some interesting techniques used in the hut’s construction, but the raven’s build has nothing too exciting and is relatively basic.

Alternate build: The B-model option contains a Baba Yaga inspired house with bird legs, a spider, and what's left of the raven. However, the raven looks very bare and flat without anything on its back. The image shows the Baba Yaga inspired house. It’s the same hut from the back of the raven’s original build but has spindly bird legs made with technic connectors. The spider uses the cauldron as the body, and the webs as the abdomen to store the memories! A decent sized pile of bricks is left over when you build the A-model.

Display value: Our score: 4 out of 5 for display value. The build has a very menacing and striking look on display, with its impressive wingspan and bright colours. There's decent room on the top of the raven to pose figures too. However, the large wingspan of 38 cm (15 in), and the similar length makes it a challenge to find a suitable display space for it. Value for money: other images of similar sized and priced Dreamzzz sets are shown for comparison: Nightmare shark ship, 71469, £120/$140/€140, 1389 pieces, 4 figs*. Mr Oz’s space bus, 71460, £85/$100/€100, 878 pieces, 2 figs*. *not counting dreamlings as minifigures. The midnight raven is £89.99 $99.99 €99.99 for 1203 parts. Our score: 4 out of 5 for value for money. With a price per piece of 7.5p/8.3c/8.3c, a large, imposing build, highly detailed figures, and a fair quantity of new, recoloured and rare parts, this set feels like a fair value. Compared to some other similar sized Dreamzzz sets, it feels like a much better value, containing more full minifigures* and pieces for the price.
