Animal lovers! Let’s look at different ways to build this spiky ball of cuteness.

On a high level, there are 3 steps in building a hedgehog: shape the body, add the spikes, and then the details such as feet and face. This hedgehog by @forlornempire has its belly curled up, with round elements like 1x2 round plates facilitating the bend.

This one from @bricks.life.idea has flowers in place of spikes, to bring in some fairytale storytelling and splash of colour. We like the shaping of the head, especially that wonderful use of a constraction figure armour (11334)!

Which is cuter? The one on the right by @vincentkiew73 has Stud Not On Top bricks to build around its core. We love how the ear pops out from behind that 1x2 curved slope using 1x2 round plates! The feet poseability using clips and part 26047 is a nice touch. This hedgehog on the left by @legotruman leans even heavier into the roundness for extra cute factor, even studs as spikes! See how it also features round 1x2 plates for poseability, this time in the feet.

This brings us to Brickheadz style! The one from @hiddenfacebricks on the right commits to having all cheese slope spikes and a curved forehead. The poseability of the feet is again present. This hedgehog by twiggy9997 features wide cheeks and bangs! The layering of 1x1 studs for some body shape adds to the chubbiness.

Back to some realism—but no less cute. The sculpting of the face on this hedgehog by @neon_5_lego is superb: lots of sideways building or even stud reversals in the lower half. Also, don’t miss those round short legs!

Next, nearly 1:1 sculptures using mostly basic plates and bricks. We love the movement and the realistic body shape of the one on the right from @felixjaensch. Another hedgehog by @seankenneyart has nice colour patterns only possible in a larger-scale sculpture. It also has a quite expressive nose like the one above!

If you wanna go all-in with the spikes, look no further than the lever piece! The hedgehog by car_mp is almost completely covered in it! Using levers also makes the spikes posable, as shown on the more relaxed hedgehog by Tigerdinoking. Its face is quite interesting: the nose and the red cheek really put in the finishing touch.

The repetitiveness of the spikes also means that if you have a lot of a certain piece, try building a hedgehog—how about with frogs? Just look at this MOC by @mrmaxxwell! Let us know if you’ve built or seen MOCs of hedgehogs!
