#2543 TECHNIQUE DISCUSSION: Micro-Scale Ships by Various Builders Ahoy! Setting sails to micro land! A ship can breathe life into your micro-scale build—let’s see how different builders approach that.

In its simplest form: just clip on a sail or two, and you have a more lived-in waterscape with some sense of motion already. See how it adds depth to the backdrop of this minifig-scale by @letrangerabsurde as well.

Hats are also good for ships! You can attach a triangular tile as sails (@sergeantchipmunk), or simply place a 1x1 tile in it (@emazingbrix).

What about claws as sails? There is another minifig hat and even a epaulette hull in this build by @bolim59. Two Ninjago swords are squeezed into this cove by @emazingbrix—one as the sails, going through a 1x2 grille tile.

@grantmasters uses a Chima gorilla fist as the hull, with a rubber band as the surrounding foam. To the right, @forlornempire uses a printed Unikitty tail from the 2016 Disney Castle to help bring a dash of fantasy—and that wand sprue mast!

On the left, @tino_poutiainen uses cabinet doors as sails with handles stuck beneath 1x1 clips. On the right, @brickhexe uses Nexo Knight shield as sails; and look at the tiny crow’s nest with the red flag!

Above, Ben Tritschler finds use for the Belville baby bib as sails. To the right, @jeff_works’s Viking sails go back to the brick-built basics to great effect.

Now we look at some furled sails: that can be with hollow studs over wands as above (@grantmasters), or minifig hands on a 1x1 clip (right, @forlornempire).

This one by @letrangerabsurde touches upon lots of what we’ve mentioned: claw sails, a creative hull, a feather flag, and the generous use of 1x1 clips. Ever realised stud shooters can look like Easter Island statues? Read our #2310 Favourite Brick Friday post on it for more creative use!

Now you can point out the parts and considerations that went into this pair from this lovely postcard. One final highlight: that red rubber band marking the deck. Leave a comment to share your thoughts & ideas!
