Part Selection: 5 out of 5. We’re excited about the possibilities offered by the new parts, especially the gargoyle and the mould for the window – the latter of which is sure to show up cleverly in future sets. Interesting recolours and rarities round out a great parts pack for the size of the set!

Mini-dolls: ALL NEW PARTS except: two re-colour hairs, and one hair that has appeared once before. The set features two pairs of the roomies – one in standard clothes, with Enid wearing her outfit from when they first met, and Wednesday in her uniform... Images of mini-dolls for Wednesday in her Nevermore uniform and Enid in her original outfit. Enid's blond hair is called out as a re-colour. ... and another pair with their dresses for the Rave’N Dance! Images of Wednesday and Enid mini-dolls in their formal wear. Enid's pink hair is called out as a re-colour and Wednesday's hair is called out as rare. Thing appears here as well as in the Wednesday Adams Figure set (76780), a new mould with an anti-stud and bar holder, and a bar protrusion for a “wrist”. Image of new Thing mould with stiches printed on the hand. Mini-dolls: 5 out of 5. Mini-dolls vs. minifigures is always a spirited debate, especially in sets like this where it could go either way – but we think the choice is appropriate here given the characters’ appearance and vibe. For a set primarily focused on two characters, getting four total dolls is a great deal – and the mould for Thing is cool, too!

Techniques:

The sturdy base provides a mechanism for drawers to store spare accessories and the alternate mini-doll for each of the girls.

Image of the base, built with arches and technic bricks. A side image shows the front, with bricks with rail slots where the drawers go.

A button on the side helps the drawer pop out with no unsightly handle on the base.

Video of the button being released on the side, with another video of each drawer popping out when the button is released.

More and more, LEGO is making sets with this sort of built-in storage for “loose parts” not connected to the main build, and we’re here for it!

Wednesday’s drawer accessories include this printed tile of the Hyde Monster drawing!

On the outside, several interesting techniques and nice part usages help faithfully depict Ophelia Hall’s neo-gothic inspired architecture. Pairs of 1 x 3 inverted arches attach to 1 x 2 hinge plates to add this curve and decorative overhang to the sloped roof. Image of the overhang of the roof with a close-up view from underneath to show how it is constructed. Part number 70681, a black 1 x 3 inverted round arch, and 44567b, a black 1 x 2 plate with hinge on side, are called out. Six parts are cleverly stacked to make the decorative pillars – two containers, a stud, a cupcake liner, a 2L bar and a worm screw! Image of the pillar on the dorm balcony. Each part that makes up the pillar is shown in the order it is stacked. From the bottom: part number 78763: a technic worm scren, part number 78258: a 2L bar, part number 79743: a cupcake liner, part number 85861: a 1 x 1 round plate with open stud, part number 3131: a half-container with stud and four corner supports, and part number 2821, a box container. All parts are light bluish gray. Stickered oval tiles decorate the base with symbols for four of Nevermore’s “monsters” – vampires, sirens, werewolves, and gargons! Image of the base of the set with the four stickered oval tiles.

Inside, some moderately interesting techniques create the right tone and feel, even if it feels a little spare and incomplete. The white tassels - a new color for this part – are a good way to represent Wednesday’s ornate light given the space provided. Images of the light from the show as well as its counterpart in the set. Part number 25375: the white chain with tassel is called out. The angled bar with stud is a clever way to prop up one of Enid’s pillows to make her bed look intentionally untidy. Images of Enid's bed, both without the left pillow so the angled bar with stud is exposed, and with the left pillow demonstrating how they end up being angled. The table for Wednesday’s record player uses a rare container, snot brick, and jumper in a unique way! Image of Enid's record player in the set. Part 3131: a reddish brown half-container with stud and four corner supports is called out. In the build, it is placed upside down, with a snot brick on top of it to make a table, and a 1 x 2 jumper plate on the side for a drawer. The lavender and lime rounded parts are a decent representation of Enid’s bed curtains. Images of Enid's curtains from the show as compared to their representation in the set, which uses round corner plates and macaroni tiles. Techniques: 3 out of 5. While the exterior part usage and drawer mechanism are noteworthy and clever, experienced AFOLs won't find too many novel techniques used here. However, this doesn't take away from the enjoyment of building it.

Accuracy: The exterior is a nearly perfect representation of the dorm room balcony. See for yourself compared to the actual stage build! Image of the actual sound stage set of Wednesday and Enid's dorm, with the LEGO set version at roughly the same angle for comparison. A printed windscreen makes for an exact replica of the iconic window after Wednesday’s “alterations”. Close-up image of the pillar on the balcony. These decorative pillars are accurate in their detail, especially with the stacked containers on top! The actual balcony has four, but that would probably have crowded the build too much. Now let’s compare the interiors...

It’s a small footprint, so we’re inclined to forgive the fact that the interior is lacking in some respects... Image of Enid and Wednesday face to face on their respective sides of the room from the pilot episode of Wednesday. For comparison, an image of the back of the set, facing the interior, shows their two minidolls in a similar configuration. Where we should see a chaotic assortment of hanging clothes, we get... earmuffs. Close-up image of the corner of Enid's room in the LEGO set, showing a bare wall with lavender earmuffs handing. Bare studded floors fill-in for the fancy hardwoods in the original. It’s worth noting this IDEAS submission by user “Brickmax” that reached 10,000 supporters. It more accurately depicted the interior, particularly on Enid’s side, with some improvements that could have been made regardless of the set’s footprint. Image of Enid's side of the room from the IDEAS submission by Brickmax. Accuracy: 4 out of 5. The exterior is nearly perfect, and they nailed what they could in the interior. We just wish there was a bit more detail, especially on Enid’s side which is supposed to be “busy”. The IDEAS submission proved this is possible!

Value for Money: Image of Wednesday and Enid's Dorm Room, with box. £79.99 / $89.99 / €89.99 for 750 parts. Image of Wednesday Addams Figure, with box. £44.99 / $49.99 / €49.99 for 702 parts. for 750 parts. Image of Stranger Things: The Upside Down, with box. £179.99 / $199.99 / €199.99 for 2,287 parts. Value for Money: 4 out of 5. We're pleased to see the playable Wednesday set retail for $89.99 compared to the pricier Stranger Things build (to compare to another Netflix show). While $89.99 is not bad for a playable "flagship" set, for around half the price Wednesday fans can get the buildable Wednesday Addams figure with almost the same amount of parts. So will you be getting your fingers on this set? Let us know what you think in the comments! Image of Thing, from the series.
