The MOC we are highlighting this week is by the talented Abe of @hypolite_bricks. The Battle of Endor from 1983’s Star Wars Episode 6: Return of the Jedi features some of the most iconic moments and characters in all of Star Wars media, and this MOC pays homage to that legacy. With fantastic techniques and versatility abound, this build is sure to inspire Star Wars and LEGO fans alike. Some come with us as we explore the forest moon of Endor!
Featured builder: @hypolite_bricks
Main image highlights the MOC in question. There are trees, a busted AT-ST covered in arrows, scout troopers, and rebels abound. There is brownish rockwork creating a cavern on the right-hand side of the image. Is this build by @hypolite_bricks a perfect MOC? Come check out the reasons we think it just might be!
Battle of Endor: It includes so many elements we emphasize on Tips&Bricks! The Battle of Endor was a watershed moment in the Rebels' fight against the Galactic Empire. And this MOC certainly does it justice!
The Base: The MOC possesses an organic, free-flowing shape and texture one would expect on Endor. It starts by arranging plates in the desired shape, and then layering bricks on a perimeter of SNOT brick 30414. Awesome work!
It's one with the landscape, and conveys the organic nature of the scene to the viewer. Photo courtesy Hypolite Bricks Youtube. Admiral Tarkin minifigure appears to ask “Base? Base you say?!” Check out Post #2442 for more MOC base tips!
NPU: The wand element held by the ewok is a great detail.
Throughout this build we spot some interesting NPU. These unexpected part usages are great examples of ingenuity.
Trees: An integral part of the Ewok way of life, trees serve as the homes, elevated walkways, and defensive mechanisms. Builder Abe was able to use SNOT techniques paired with reddish brown tail elements to recreate the giant sequoias used for filming. Check out Post #2535 for more tree tips! Photo courtesy of LFL
Rockwork: This beautiful rockwork relies on a wall of SNOT bricks to build the slopes outwards. This creates the
outcropping for the Rebels to hide and scheme! A scout trooper minifigure appears from the side of the frame to ask: “Has anyone seen my speeder bike?” Check out Post #2498 for more rockwork tips!
Story-telling Possibilities: Everywhere one looks there are little story elements playing out! A busted AT-ST, hidden culverts, good vs. evil. And the best part is, you can swap out minifigures to modify a scene or vignette. Its versatility is undeniable! BEFORE: Image of an area with Princess Leia and one ewok. AFTER: Image of the same area as before now with Han Solo, Princess Leia and rebel soldiers. Did You Know?: As seen in Rebels, Captain Rex did fight at the Battle of Endor, but LFL officials have chosen not to officially declare the bearded character from ROTJ as Rex himself. The Nik Sant minifigure is highlighted and pointed out.
Wrap-Up: Be sure to check out Abe on Instagram and Youtube: @hypolite_bricks! This MOC is a perfect encapsulation of the techniques, tips, and strategies we emphasize! If our posts are lessons, then this MOC would be a cumulative final exam with highest marks. Each previous slide has been a topic Tips&Bricks covered, including in our ongoing Beginner Series. Emperor Palpatine's minifigure is peeking out saying: “Gooooood, work Abe!”
