Today's technique is this awesome conical roof design by Nick Runia on Flickr, straight out of his castle MOC.
Not only is the shape of this roof perfect, especially how it lines up with the windows, but it also has a very pleasing colour scheme. The oranges, dark reds, browns and black go together so well, and these different coloured 1x1 cylinders also create a interesting texture for the roof.
