Wedge plates have always been incredibly useful for a diverse range of techniques, as the diagonal shape allows you to create different shapes. Their utility is amplified when the pieces are angled, as seen in this technique by Horlack on Flickr, who uses various hinges to position the pieces into a roof.
If you're thinking of making this yourself, you can do so with very few pieces to create a similar effect. 1x2 hinge bricks can be used to angle the wedge plates at 70 degrees, which lines up the sides to create a roof with minimal gaps. If 1x4 swivel plates are added, you can even create a conical roof, that is simple to create and looks pretty good.
